For the Swiss dance institution Residenzzentrum tanz+, I organised an exclusive showcase/talk with Pei-Ling Kao at the Aargauer Kunsthaus.
Pei-Ling Kao is a Taiwanese dance educator, dance-maker and performer. She is also an associate professor of dance at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She has worked in the field of dance for over 30 years, learning different styles of dance to help intellectually and physically adapt herself to changes in the contemporary dance world. Her research and creative interests have focused on movement improvisation, the bicultural and hybrid movement, as well as dance lineages and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Pei-Ling Kao explores cultural identity and migration in dance, responds to political and social issues and expresses her devotion to the art. What influence do choreographers exert on dancers? How free are dancers really? These questions will occupy her until the premiere, which is planned for May 2023 in San Francisco, USA.
